The delivery of the FLEX research project gets underway with a workshop with a range of specialists to be held at the Toffee Factory, Ouseburn on the 4th July 2012. The workshop will bring together a range of designers, architects, ageing, housing, materials, facilitation and engagement experts. Activities will explore a range of issues around the adaptation of existing housing stock to more effectively meet the needs of the ageing population including enabling a greater level of flexibility to encourage more sociable modes of living.
This initial workshop will inform and develop the future stages of the programme including co-design workshops with communities in Newcastle and Dundee that focus on how older people might dwell more socially to better serve companionship, resource sharing and social resilience. The activities will target people in their 40s to 60s, for whom retirement is not so distant, to identify their interests and values.
